Since the start of the new year, we have been working towards a big change in Mt. View EyeCare Center and we’re happy to finally be able to announce to everyone that we are aiming to move our practice by the end of this year.
We have been in this location for almost 33 years since my father first opened the practice back in February of 1989. I quite literally grew up coming to this location as a child to see my dad work here. After finishing optometry school, I came back to begin practicing in 2016 and eventually brought my wife in to practice with us in 2017. Since we took over, our practice has grown significantly (thanks in part to our amazing patients referring their friends and family!). What started as less than 1000 square feet in 1989 with one doctor and one employee has grown to about 2000 square feet with 6 employees and two doctors.
“So what’s the problem? Why are you moving?”
Great question. Ever since I began practicing, I always had the end goal to be that my wife could come in and begin practicing here as well. That happened a little quicker than I anticipated, but it’s worked out very well overall. The problem is that we are just limited on space. The 5 year plan that I had in my mind when I started practicing was to be in a larger space or to own our own building. While our landlords here have been nothing but amazing for us over the many years of being in this location, there’s just not enough space for us to expand our current location. Thankfully, we found a space that we fell in love with!
We will be moving to:
1405 SE 164 th Ave
Suite 102
Vancouver WA 98683
We will be next door to Dr. Carole Workman and her nurse practitioner Katherine Moon. Many of our patients have been seeing Dr. Workman and Katherine Moon for many years, so we are thankful to be very close to them. We’ll also be closer to several other practices where many of our patients are seen for their primary care.
“So what are the benefits of this move?”
Another great question! This space will be taking us from about 2000 square feet up to 3100 square feet! This means we’ll be able to move from just 2 exam rooms to eventually 6 exam rooms. The best reason this is beneficial for patients is it means that both Dr. Soper and I will be able to see patients at the same time. That means more patient care availability. For those who have tried to come in to see us in the last 6 months have to come to find out, there are times where we are booked solid 4-5 weeks in advance! Ideally, I would be able to return to seeing patients 4-4.5 days a week and Dr. Soper would be able to move to seeing patients 3-3.5 days per week. Our ultimate goal here is to provide more care for more patients, but keeping it at the same quality of care that they patients have grown accustomed to over the many years of Mt. View EyeCare’s existence.
We are also planning to expand the services that we offer. Over the last several years, we have received more and more referrals from other doctors for specialty contact lenses including scleral contact lenses,
orthokeratology lenses, hybrid contacts, and other types. We want to make sure we can continue to offer better technology to aid with improving these patient’s quality of vision which needs more space
at this point. Our intention is to begin offering low vision services with an expansion in the types of low vision aids we provide. We have been offering low vision services on a limited basis for the last several years, but this was due to lack of space. With a new facility, we’ll be able to increase those offerings in the next few years.
While we don’t have the exact date for our move, we are eyeing (ha!) to have the move completed in December or January at the latest. We’ll be sending out email updates and updating our website with more information for patients as we get closer. We will also be sending out our text message reminders to patients for their appointments reminding them when we have moved to the new facility. Thankfully, if you show up at the old space, you won’t have too far to travel to get to the new space since it’s just over a mile away!
